Modern Medieval 2 is a game with a great amount of potential. Sadly, a few bugs, and a few poor design choices have made it all but unplayable.

Modern Medieval is a 2d platformer in which a blue guy fights red guys. In his arsenal he has five weapons: an axe, a sword, a spear, powder kegs and a bow. The weapons all use a charge meter, the bow uses the mouse to aim, and the games simple controls make it very easy to pick up. Even the menu is simple, with one option, “play”. All the controls are explained in graffiti looking text written in the games first stage. The game also has check points, which you respawn at if you die.

With all this going for it – you might wonder how it only got a two out of five. To start with, it has a lot of collision detection bugs. Walls and ramps can be randomly jumped through, and the character has a tendency to get stuck if he jumps into the side of things. The game also has moving platforms, which will sometimes move independently of the player, and right out from underneath him. The jumping control is a little loose too.

Knowing this, the best thing to do would be to track down and fix the bugs in the engine. The second best thing would be to design levels that didn’t require a lot of jumping, or use a lot of moving platforms. Sadly, the level designers made a long stretch of erratically moving platforms, a long distance away from a respawn point, and after 13 bug ridden attempts to cross, Modern Medieval 2 became the first game I reviewed without beating.

The sound effects are also poor, but the music is good.

Overall, the game is too buggy to be considered playable.

At first glance, 13 days in hell appears to be quite impressive. The game has a neat occult feel to it, the menus have a 3d book as a back drop, and the game starts by having you sign the ’13 days challenge pact’. Sadly, after a few rounds, the game play starts to get highly repetitive, and what you are left with is a highly-polished, but highly mediocre game.

Escaping Paris 2 is a very short, very simple little game in which you help Paris Hilton escape from jail. The controls are very simple, and all items are used automatically.

Fratboy House Wars is a worms-like game, in which you lob books, kegs, dogs, rockets and what might be beer bottles at an adjacent frat house. If you like worms, or scorched earth, you’ll probably like it – and if you do decide to play it, make sure you click the cat in the forth level!
